SLim Client
The new SLim client for Second Life is now available. So what is it? Basically it’s the Second Life Instant Messenger. i.e. SLim. Get it? Clever name huh?
So yes it is now possible to chat to your online friends who are on either Second Life them self or indeed if they are on SLim. Of course, this means you do not need to log into SL anymore in order just to catch up with your friends online.
And Yes it supports Voice
It does have its bugs tho. Sometimes showing friends as Online when they ain’t. And for now, it won’t allow Group chat. I am sure that shall come in time.
"SLim" is the Second Life® lightweight chat client. Cleverly named for its design, SLim offers a compact option for communication with your Second Life friends.
Enables Residents like you to interact with their Second Life friends without having to go inworld with the Second Life Viewer.
- Only offers one-to-one text and voice chat.
- Is in beta and may have occasional bugs.
- Currently doesn’t support:
- Spatial voice (as if you were inworld in Local Chat)
- Group text chat
- Group voice chat
It’s something handy to have around if you are indeed on low internet speed and don’t want to use up all your bandwidth with the SL Client Viewers. Apart from that, there’s not much more I can say about it.
Full details and download can be found on the SL Wiki. Check it out for yourself
